Reasons and Excuses

The reasons why we are the way we are may be valid, but under God's redemption, they cannot serve as excuses for failing to be faithful to Jesus and His Kingdom. Reasons can be redeemed, but excuses cannot. This sermon, titled "Reasons and Excuses," explores how we need to distinguish between the reasons behind our struggles and not let them become excuses for disobedience to Jesus. It also offers helpful "steps to living a life without excuses."

Steps to Living a Life Without Excuses:

What is the heart of God? (What is Jesus' command in this specific situation?)

Evaluate my response to His command: (The tension in obedience)

Identify the reasons behind my resistance.

Recall the truth and promises of God through His Word.

Speak the truth and renounce the lie (resist and refuse the enemy).

Do the work of redemption: Pray, confess, repent, get accountability, seek counsel for the wound, forgive—however the Holy Spirit leads, respond.

Live as a new creation and a work in progress.
